BIO

Jean Placide is a multifaceted 2nd generation recording artist born & raised in Los Angeles. The 26 year-old powerhouse singer, songwriter, rapper, producer, and creative director represents the beautiful fusion of genres and musical styles from both old school and new school. Hailing from Pasadena California, Jean Placide pulls from a variety of genres including, Soul, Funk, Rap/Hip-Hop, Electronic, and Jazz to create his captivatingly unique songs. Inspired by artists such as J Dilla, Ryan Leslie, Hiatus Kaiyote, and The Isley Brothers to name a few, Placide is a very unique and hardworking artist. 

    From producing and recording the track to writing the treatment and editing the music video for the majority of his releases, Placide is able to express himself freely and fully. Throughout the years he’s released a series of songs and a few videos including tracks such as “Nightingale”, “Pink Velvet, and “Left Me on Read'' which was featured on EARMILK’s The Slice. After a brief hiatus, Placide has returned under the Self owned Label of The Black Dojo® with a series of singles and videos including a live version of his single “ Jericho”, and his most popular Single/Video “IFWY”. A contagiously fun summer track that will fit perfectly on any playlist accompanied by an emerging music video produced and creative directed by Jean Placide. 

He’ll continue to release a series of singles and videos leading up to his incredibly dynamic self produced debut project. His music captures themes of hardships in love, self reflection, and personal growth on the journey of chasing a dream. Taking his entire life to create this first album he’s taking the time to create a clear mission for his artistry. In working on finish the album he states:

“Like many others my age I’ve grown up feeling the pressures of both finding balance within myself, while simultaneously trying to keep balance between myself and those who have had my heart. By songwriting my way through my life’s twists & turns I discovered the power that comes with vulnerability and persistence. I hope my music brings those in need of that power together to sing and dance like no one’s looking and leave feeling liberated”.
